Short USB 2.0 Extension Cables
Sometimes you just need to extend the distance to your
USB devices by a little bit - maybe you just need to go an extra 9
inches, 3 feet, 6 feet or 10 feet. If the maximum distance to your
USB device is less than 16 feet you don't need an active extension
cable.
Full USB 2.0 speeds
These high-quality USB 2.0 cables are just like USB device cables,
except they are male-to-female cables, which allow you to use them to
extend the distance to your USB devices. They operate at full USB 2.0
speeds (up to 480 Mbps).
Short USB extension cables, also known as passive
USB extension cables, are much cheaper than active cables because
they don't require an active repeater chip (also known as a booster)
which amplifies the signal to allow it to travel a farther distance
without degradation.
Short USB extenders have a male USB port on one end and a
female port on the other (like most USB extenders), so the only
real difference between a regular USB device cable and a passive
extender is that one end is type-A female rather than type-B male.
